Will Mellor claims fraudsters laundered £10,000 through bank accounts they set up in his name after stealing his post
Will Mellor has claimed a gang of fraudsters laundered at least £10,000 through bank accounts set up in his name after they stole his identity.
The Coronation Street star, 45, discussed the criminal activity on the Two Pints podcast – which he said began when the fraudsters stole his post.
He told host and former co-star Ralf Little: ‘It was only a year and a half ago. A lovely lady who lives opposite across the road said, “I just want to let you know there’s been a strange person going into your mail box”.’

‘So I checked my CCTV and there’s this lad, he put his hand in my letterbox and took something out.
‘He’s following the postman. They’ve robbed my identity and they’ve opened bank accounts in my name.’
Will then said that after discovering what had been going on, he was left ‘jumping through hoops’ to get the false bank accounts closed down – including proving he was the real Will Mellor.
The 45-year-old Coronation Street star was speaking on the Two Pints podcast, when he discussed the criminal activity
He added: ‘There was like ten grand in one account. There was all that. So they’d been doing this for ages and I didn’t even know.”
The actor also said that police are now investigating the gang and that the fake bank accounts had now been closed down, with the laundered money having been recovered.
It comes after Will said landing a role on Coronation Street after the death of his beloved father in April 2020 from cancer ‘came at a good time’.
Noting that his father would have been ‘chuffed’ to see him on the iconic soap, Will added he considered the acting job ‘a nice positive’ after such a devastating loss.
The Two Pints Of Lager actor plays drug lord Harvey Gaskell on the soap and despite only being cast as the character in February has caused quite a stir in Weatherfield.
Will told The Mirror: ‘I had a bad time losing my dad. Doing Corrie has been a lift for the family and a boost for my mum – it’s been really tough for her. She’s on her own now, so it’s a good distraction for her.’
Will also revealed that he wears his late father’s ring on his little finger while in character.
‘It’s one I bought him years ago. I put it into the character and it works – we’ve got him with me on my little finger in the character.’
