The incident took place on November 22, in Westgate Street, Hackney, at just before 9pm and the unnamed woman is not believed to have been the target of the shooting.

Police officers called to the scene administered CPR on the victim before paramedics arrived and took her to an East London hospital.

Hidir Aslan, who runs the London Fields Express grocery store, said the 32-year-old victim was ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’, adding: ‘There were two groups of young guys in the street and they started shooting at each other. The woman was caught in the crossfire.’

Mr Aslam added that the woman had been walking past the Cat and Mutton pub when she was hit.

Another witness to the Hackney shooting told MailOnline that he heard a volley of gunshots and saw the woman lying bleeding in the street moments after he told how he had been ‘challenged’ by a gang of 12 to 15 men.

The group was wearing balaclavas outside the Sultan Food and Wine Convenience store opposite London Fields.

Detectives from Specialist Crime North (Trident) continue to investigate, led by Detective Inspector Matt Webb.

He said: ‘Over the course of this investigation we have spoken to a number of people and been contacted by local residents who have been disgusted by this horrific incident and have wanted to share with us what they know.

‘I would like to thank those people, and reassure them that we continue to work 24/7 and will stop at nothing to find the person or persons who left this woman so seriously injured.

‘While we have made three arrests we retain an open mind and would ask anyone who has not yet made contact with us to please get in touch.

‘As we have previously said, we believe that approximately ten people were together in Broadway Market, E8 about ten minutes before this offence occurred.

‘It appears the group were being filmed for the purposes of a music video, with professional looking camera equipment.

‘It then appears that the group have become involved in an altercation with another group of people who arrived at the scene – during this incident one of the groups produced and discharged a firearm – both groups then fled the scene.

‘The victim was an innocent bystander and left seriously injured in the street. She was assisted by members of the public before police began first aid prior to the arrival of LAS.

‘Police must work with communities to catch criminals and this incident is an example of how important that is right now. Someone knows who did this; I say to those people, please do not help violent criminals by remaining silent.’
