Man Utd ‘add Ben White to centre-back shortlist’ for January transfer window
Manchester United have pinpointed Ben White as one of three potential centre-back signings in the upcoming windows.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was extensively linked with a move for a central defender in the summer, with the Norwegian ultimately deciding he was happy with his options.
That decision has been heavily questioned, particularly in the wake of United conceding 17 Premier League goals in just 10 games.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have both come in for criticism at points this season, with the United skipper’s leadership abilities being questioned.
With just weeks until the transfer window re-opens, Solskjaer is reportedly resigned to the fact that he needs further defensive reinforcements in order to challenge for the top-four.
MEN Sport report that Brighton defender White, is under serious consideration, with his ability to play out from the back appealing.
Along with White, United are also looking at RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Real Madrid superstar Rapahel Varane.
White has impressed for the Seagulls in his first season in the top-flight after helping Leeds United to Championship promotion last season.
United will face competition to sign the 23-year-old however, with Leeds keen to bring him back to Elland Road and Liverpool looking to solve their defensive injury crisis.
Brighton are hoping to keep White for at least the remainder of this season, although they could be willing to sell next summer.
In a recent press conference, Potter didn’t deny there was interest from other clubs, but praised his commitment to the cause at the Amex Stadium.

“I have no worries about Ben getting his head turned at all,” said Potter. “He is a level-headed guy that wants to play football.
“Of course he wants to play football at the highest level, just like you want all your players to have those ambitions.
“But he gets his head down and gets on with his work and he was totally professional in summer, despite the noise from outside which you can’t control.
“He knows that. He is a smart guy and we will just carry on getting on with our work and try to help him enjoy his football, which is the most important thing.”
