Responding officers learned that Sanchez brought the 11-year-old girl, who had been complaining of stomach pains, to the emergency room and was waiting outside in his car.
As the investigation progressed, deputies learned that the child was pregnant, and that Sanchez was believed to be the baby’s father.
It was unclear how Sanchez and the victim knew one another. The sheriff’s office has not commented on the nature of their relationship.
When deputies responded to the hospital, Sanchez sped off, then abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot to a nearby apartment complex.
Deputies, with the assistance of Gonzales police officers, tracked down Sanchez hiding in a patio area of the residence.
