Anderson Cooper has shared an adorable new photo of himself with his nine-month-old son Wyatt while summing up fatherhood in one simple word: ‘Bliss’.
The 53-year-old CNN anchor, who welcomed his baby son via a surrogate in April 2020, posted the image to Instagram on Tuesday, while also sharing the touching sentiment about his time as a father.
In the sweet snap, Anderson is seen holding Wyatt – who is named for the TV host’s late father – in a Baby Bjorn carrier that is strapped to his chest, while cradling the tot’s sock-clad feet in his hands.

Spot the difference! Commenters were quick to point out the fact that baby Wyatt has the same bright blue eyes that his father is famous for
The image appears to have been taken when the weather in New York was a bit warmer, and shows Anderson wearing nothing but a black T-shirt and a baseball cap, while his blue-eyed baby boy is dressed more warmly in a bright blue sweatsuit and a pale blue knitted beanie, as well as a pair of black-and-white striped socks.
Anderson’s post was quickly flooded with kind words from commenters, with many remarking on the fact that Wyatt has the same bright blue eyes as his proud father.
Fellow news anchor Steven Romo – who works at ABC Houston – wrote: ‘Adorable – the world now has two sets of those national treasure blue eyes.’
Another person chimed in: ‘Such a beautiful baby. How did you manage to make a copy of yourself!’
‘Look at those eyes!’ a third person added.
Anderson welcomed Wyatt via a surrogate in April of last year, announcing the arrival of his baby boy on CNN a few days after the birth – while revealing the sentimental origins of his name.
‘As a gay kid I never thought I’d have a child,’ he told viewers in the emotional broadcast on April 30.
Bond: In December, Anderson opened up about his experience as a first-time father, admitting that he wishes he’d had a child ‘sooner’ rather than waiting until he felt ‘really ready’
Sentimental: While announcing Wyatt’s arrival in April, Anderson revealed that he named the baby boy for his late father, who died when the CNN host was just ten years old
Connection: Anderson also gave Wyatt the middle name ‘Morgan’ which is a family name on his mother’s side – and was a moniker that she and his father considered instead of Anderson
He continued: ‘This is Wyatt Cooper. He is three days old. He is named after my father, who died when I was ten. I hope I can be as good a dad as he was.
Anderson explained that his late mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, also had a hand in the naming of his son, revealing that he chose the middle name ‘Morgan’ because it is a family name, and one that he knows both of his parents were fond of.
‘My son’s middle name is Morgan,’ he said. ‘It’s a family name on my mom’s side. I know my mom and dad liked the name Morgan because I recently found a list they made 52 years ago when they were trying to think of names for me.’
Since announcing the birth of his child, first-time dad Anderson has been open about his experiences as a father, candidly revealing in December that he wishes he’d had a child ‘sooner’ rather than waiting until he felt ‘really ready’.
‘It’s extraordinary to me,’ he said of life with his baby boy during an interview with Bruce Bozzi on SiriusXM’s Quarantined with Bruce.
‘I’ve been, been able to spend the whole, days. I mean, all my time with him really, you know, during this pandemic and it’s just, it’s been amazing.’
He added: ‘I just love every aspect of it and it’s just truly the greatest thing ever. And I sort of just feel like I, what was I doing before?’

Together: The TV host is co-parenting his son with ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani, whom he split from in March 2018
Days after his son was born, Anderson revealed his plans to co-parent the baby boy with his ex-boyfriend, nightclub owner Benjamin Maisani, telling Stephen Colbert that he wants his former partner to be part of Wyatt’s family.
‘Even though we’re not together anymore, he’s my family and I want him to be Wyatt’s family as well,’ he said.
The following month, Anderson and Wyatt posed together for the cover of People magazine, in which the CNN host shared further details about his co-parenting arrangement with Benjamin, who had expressed doubts about whether he wanted to become a father when the two were together.
‘There is no acrimony between us,’ he said. ‘Even though it’s maybe unconventional because he’s my ex, he is my family.’
Explaining that he knows what it is like to grow up without a father, having lost his own when he was just ten years old, Anderson added that he wants his own son to be ‘surrounded by love’ throughout his life.
‘If there was ever something that happened to me, I would want Wyatt to be surrounded by love,’ he said.
Anderson and Benjamin split in March 2018, two years before Wyatt was born, however they remained close in the wake of their break-up.
