Anderson Cooper’s six-month-old son Wyatt Morgan is named People’s ‘Cutest Baby Alive’

Anderson Cooper’s son Wyatt Morgan is only six months old, but he’s already had his first crowning achievement.

The 53-year-old CNN anchor’s son, who was welcomed via surrogate earlier this year, has been named People‘s ‘Cutest Baby Alive’ — and it’s easy to see why.

With his big blue eyes and gummy smile, Wyatt is absolutely precious, and it’s even sweeter that he is following in his best friend Benjamin Allen Cohen’s footsteps.

Benjamin, who is talk show host Andy Cohen’s son, took home the title last year, and now he’s passing on the torch to his playdate companion.

Their two dads are the best of friends, so it’s only natural that they get to spend plenty of time together.

Cooper welcomed baby Wyatt on April 27, and he later shared that his late mother, socialite Gloria Vanderbilt, knew he was going to become a dad before she passed away on June 17, 2019.

‘I was able to tell her shortly before she died that I was going to have a baby, and Wyatt hadn’t been created at that point, was not a being at that point, but he was an idea in my head and I was in the process,’ he said during an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan in May. ‘She was thrilled.’

The proud dad shared on Instagram that his son was named Wyatt Cooper after his father, who died when he was 10 years old. His son’s middle name, Morgan, is a family name on his mother’s side.

‘I know my mom and dad liked the name Morgan because I recently found a list they made 52 years ago when they were trying to think of names for me,’ he explained. ‘Wyatt Morgan Cooper. My son. He was 7.2 lbs at birth, and he is sweet, and soft, and healthy and I am beyond happy.

‘As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I’m grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son’s birth,’ he added.

‘Most of all, I am grateful to a remarkable surrogate who carried Wyatt, and watched over him lovingly, and tenderly, and gave birth to him. It is an extraordinary blessing — what she, and all surrogates give to families who can’t have children.’

Cooper ended his post with thoughts on his late mother and older brother Carter, who died by suicide in 1988 when he was 23 years old.

‘I do wish my mom and dad and my brother, Carter, were alive to meet Wyatt, but I like to believe they can see him,’ he said.

‘I imagine them all together, arms around each other, smiling and laughing, happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt, and that our family continues.’

Cooper has only shared a few photos of Wyatt so far, but each one is cuter than the last. In September, he celebrated his son turning five months old by posting a picture of his baby boy lying next to him.

‘My son will be five months old in less than two weeks. He is such a happy baby even though he has started teething, ‘ he wrote. ‘He loves being read to and so far Dr. Seuss is his favorite, particularly One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Ok, that’s my favorite, but he does seem to like it a lot.’

Cooper is co-parenting Wyatt with his best friend and former partner, Benjamin Maisani.

‘There is no acrimony between us,’ he explained in People’s Pride issue. ‘Even though it’s maybe unconventional because he’s my ex, he is my family.’

‘I knew what it was like growing up without a dad,’ he added. ‘If there was ever something that happened to me, I would want Wyatt to be surrounded by love.’
