Barbra Streisand was seen in public for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began as she stepped out in Los Angeles this week. 

The iconic singer-actress, who has stayed out of sight throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, was spotted running errands with a female friend on Tuesday – a little over a week ahead of her 79th birthday. 

Streisand appeared to be trying to lay low and was hardly recognizable as she dressed in black from head to toe. 

She also wore a black floppy hat along with a large protective face mask and dark sunglasses.

The rare outing comes a few months after Barbra was last seen performing virtually at the We The People Concert for President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January. 

Prior to that she hadn’t been photographed since she attended an arts event with husband James Brolin, 80, in May 2019.

The star however, has remained active on social media, often weighing in on political issues and slamming former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. 

Earlier this month she joined fellow A-listers and liberals in condemning Georgia’s controversial new voting bill that was signed into law by Republican Governor Brian Kemp.

Earlier this month Barbra joined a fellow A-listers and liberals in condemning Georgia's controversial new voting law.

She has also advocated for the COVID-19 vaccine and urged her fans to get their shot after revealing she and her husband received both doses last month. 

‘Jim and I feel so much more protected after having our second vaccine shot and we hope the rest of you get protected too,’ she wrote in an an Instagram post in March. 

Streisand, a proud Democrat who has supported the Clintons as well as Barack Obama, has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and had pleaded for change in the lead up to the 2020 election. 

Before introducing a clip of herself singing Happy Days Are Here Again at January’s virtual event, the Hollywood star spoke about her hopes for the Biden presidency. 

Although Streisand has avoided the public eye over the past 12 months, she has remained active on social media. In an Instagram post last month she revealed she and husband had received their COVID-19 vaccines and urged her fans to follow suit

Addressing Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, she gushed: ‘You both have the empathy we need now more than ever and together we will emerge from these dark days into the light.’ 

Barbra Streisand broke into the entertainment industry nearly 60 years ago and despite having all four major awards under her belt, she’s not considered an EGOT winner as her Tony was in recognition of a non-competitive category. 

The 78-year-old has received 42 Grammy nominations and eight wins, five Oscar nods and four Emmy awards.
