A black woman says she was shot six times by an off-duty cop after confronting him for tailgating her.
Lacresha Murray says she was shot six times by the off-duty cop in Copperas Cove, Texas, on Sunday, though her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Texas Rangers are now investigating the incident.
Murray says the incident began while she was out for a drive on Sunday, and began to feel sick.
She says she she decided to turn herself around and head to a hospital.
Lacresha Murray is recovering after she was shot six times by an off-duty police officer
‘I did a U-turn in the middle of the street because I was going to go to the hospital,’ Murray, who spoke in scrubs after the shooting, told KWTX. ‘I started feeling sick.’
Murray says that after the U-turn, which was made in front of a silver truck, the other driver began tailgating her, leading her to get out of the car and confront him.
During that confrontation, Murray was holding her side because of the pain she was in and the man, who Murray says had not identified himself as an officer yet, allegedly pulled his gun.
‘When I turned around to run back to my truck and get out of there, I just heard pop pop pop pop and all I could do was bend over and duck,’ Murray said.
‘He just started shooting, all I could do was lean over and he hit me six times. I’m a victim that got shot by an off-duty police officer that did not identify himself,’ Murray added to 25 News.
The shooting prompted residents of nearby houses to come out and film the incident on their phones, which is when the shooter finally identified himself as a cop, it is claimed.
His name and ethnicity have not been released, with no further information shared by Texas Rangers on why he opened fire.
‘At the time, when he’s looking back and seeing these guys recording, he turned around, then he took out his badge,’ Murray said.
‘Tell me you’re a police officer? Why are you arguing with me like you’re a regular person like you didn’t do any of that,’ Murray told 25 News, wondering why she wasn’t told the man was a cop.

Murray alleges that the off-duty cop didn’t reveal a badge until neighbors came outside
The daughter of a resident in the neighborhood ultimately called 911 around, while other residents tried to get the off-duty officer to put his gun away.
A press release from the Copperas Cove Police Department says officers responded to the scene at around 12:43pm on Sunday after multiple reports about the shooting.
They revealed that an off-duty officer was involved in the shooting, but was not injured.
They stated that the woman, later identified as Murray, was transported to Scott & White Hospital with gunshot wounds.
Further information on Murray’s injuries have not been shared, although she was able to walk and talk during a televised interview.
The Copperas Cove PD has been redirecting comment to the Texas Rangers, who have not responded to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.
According to 25 News, Murray later returned to the shooting scene while still wearing her hospital gown to retrieve her phone from her vehicle.
‘For no reason, I didn’t approach him, I didn’t threaten him. I don’t do anything. He just opened fire for no reason,’ Murray said of the shooting while back on the scene.
None of the cell-phone footage shot by neighbors has emerged.
The off-duty officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation
While the officer in the shooting hasn’t been identified yet, Lt. Kevin Miller of the Copperas Cove PD told the Killeen Daily Herald that the cop has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
It’s not clear if the leave the officer was placed on is paid or unpaid.
