Gieswein, of Woodland Park, Colorado, is accused of assaulting a police officer and obstructing a federal proceeding during the Capitol riots.

FBI officers raided a home where Gieswein was thought to be living before later arresting him.

The 24-year-old allegedly sprayed an unknown substance at Capitol officers trying to contain the mob who had descended on the Capitol, according to an arrest warrant.

In an affidavit seen by the New York Post, an FBI agent wrote: ‘Gieswein assaulted federal officers outside the Capitol; observed and encouraged rioters as they broke a window of the Capitol building; entered the building through that broken window; and then charged through the Capitol building.’

The FBI used a collection of video and images taken of Gieswein outside and inside the Capitol to identity him, the affidavit states, in addition to an interview Gieswein gave to a journalist the day before the riot.

The document states that Gieswein wore ‘distinctive paramilitary gear’ during the raid on January 6, including a camouflage shirt, an Army-style helmet and goggles.

It also stated he wore a vest with ‘Woodland Wild Dog’ patches on it.

The Three Percenters are one of the most high-profile US militia groups. They take their name from an inaccurate claim that only 3% of Americans fought against the British in the War of Independence.

The group believes that the government is plotting to take away the rights of U.S. citizens and must be resisted.

Scott Levin, a regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, told Fox 31: ‘[The Three Percenters] have aligned themselves to be often a protector of President Trump.

‘They have been– and are often seen– wearing military garb and carrying weapons.’

‘These militia movements have made their way across the United States,’ Levin added.
