California police arrested 54-year-old Hung Nguyen (pictured) who was suspected of drunk driving when he smashed his SUV into parked planes at a small airport on Saturday

California police arrested a 54-year-old man suspected of drunk driving after he crashed his SUV into parked planes at an airport over the weekend.

Hung Nguyen was taken into custody Saturday evening when deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a collision at the Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4.45pm when Nguyen was heading down Cunningham Avenue in his midsize SUV.

While driving east, authorities said he went through two fences and across two runways before striking a small parked plane.

That collision created a domino effect that caused damage to two more parked planes.

Images from the incident also show the wall of a hangar that was torn down due to the impact from the crash.

Another photo showed a parked car that appeared to suffer some damage from the hangar wall.

Police said Nguyen was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In his mugshot, Nguyen appeared with a bandage wrapped around his head and dried blood near his right eye.

Nguyen has been charged with driving while under the influence.

He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail after he was released from the hospital.

Authorities said Monday that don’t have an estimation for how much Nguyen caused in damages to the planes and hangar.

The small Reid-Hillview Airport mostly handles private aircraft.
