Eight-bedroom LA mansion belonging to late radio star Casey Kasem hits the market for $39.7 million

An eight-bedroom estate belonging to late radio DJ Casey Kasem has hit the market for a whopping $37.9 million.

The sprawling 2.5 acre property is located in the ritzy Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills – just a stone’s throw from Hugh Hefner’s Playboy mansion.

The 12,000-square-foot mansion was built back in the 1950s, before it was bought  by Kasem and his second wife, Jean, back in the mid-1980s.

The Classical Revival-style home, which features a front fountain, columns and a rounded portico, was later remodeled by the couple.

The pair added dozens of French doors, a heart shaped swimming pool and life-size statues – all inspired by their ‘glamorous’ trips to Europe.

‘We loved to travel and stay in hotels, and an idea of a European château was very appealing to us,’ Jean told The Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

Kasem – who hosted ‘American Top 40’ – passed away back in 2014 at the age of 82, leaving behind an estimated fortune of $80 million.

Jean Kasem had been locked in a five-year legal battle for her husband’s fortune, which was finally settled at the end of 2019.

Kasem’s three children from his first marriage filed a wrongful death lawsuit against their stepmom, claiming she mistreated their father before he died.

However, Jean Kasem eventually gained control of the Los Angeles estate, and has now listed it for sale with David Parnes and James Harris of The Agency.

Listing photos show the home is not short on glamour, complete with chandeliers, stone fireplaces and marble bathrooms.

The home features a plush library which features wood paneled walls and grooved ceilings.

There will also be plenty of room for the buyer to entertain visitors, as the home features a separate guest wing.

The Kasems also made sure to keep their garden manicured, with well-trimmed hedges and lush green lawns surrounding the main house.

Back in the mid-200s, they added a formal garden to the property with fruit trees and vegetable plots.

The couple also decided to bring in 1,200 white rose bushes in order to ‘light up the garden at night.’

While the home also features a full-size tennis court, perhaps the most unique addition is the heart-shaped swimming pool that Kasem had installed for his wife.

‘Casey had an affinity for hearts and would leave notes on the bathroom mirror and bedside for me with hearts,’ Jean told The Wall Street Journal.
