Schimmel, a WNBA All-Star in 2014 and 2015, grew up among the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in eastern Oregon (Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla). She gained notoriety in 2011 as the star of the documentary ‘Off the Rez’ about her burgeoning basketball career and family.

The following year she was the eighth-overall pick of the 2014 WNBA Draft by Atlanta, and later became the MVP of the All-Star Game that same year.

Her career took a downward turn in 2016 after she was traded to New York and suffered a season-ending concussion 17 games into the season.

After sitting out the 2017 season for personal reasons, she rejoined the New York Liberty in 2018 but was waived in training camp before signing with Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, she played in only two games for the Aces before being released.
