An FDNY firefighter was hit in the head by a falling air conditioner unit as he and his crew attended a blaze in Brooklyn in Monday morning.  

The man was seen walking next to a building when out of nowhere the metal unit fell from above striking the man with a glancing blow.

The firefighter from Ladder 172 fell to the floor instantly as his colleagues rushed to his aid.

A loud crash can be heard in the video, before the AC unit pummels the firefighter, knocking him to the ground. 

The member of New York’s Bravest was responding to a two-alarm blaze along with 106 other firefighters in the Bensonhurst area of Brooklyn just before 9am on Monday. 

Incredibly, the rescuer survived and he was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable but serious condition.

The FDNY said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

At this time it is not clear if the air conditioner fell from the building accidentally or if it was thrown deliberately according to the Daily News.  

Air conditioning units can weigh any thing from between 40 to 120lbs. 

Five other firefighters also suffered minor injuries as they batted the blaze that damaged two homes.  

‘All details of the incident and the fire are under investigation,’ an FDNY spokesman said.
