Girl, 16, is shot dead in Hyatt Regency hotel in Atlanta as cops charge a 16-year-old boy with her murder

A teenage girl was shot dead in a hotel room in downtown Atlanta with cops later charging a 16-year-old boy with her murder.
The victim, who was identified as Kalecia Williams, 16, was shot at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta on Peachtree Street around 12.27am on December 26.
Officers from the Atlanta Police Department arrived at the scene in the downtown hotel district to find the teen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the groin area.

She was not conscious or breathing and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A male suspect, also 16, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a pistol for person under the age of 18.
The 16-year-old is being held at the Metro Youth Detention Center and has not been identified by police due to his young age.
Investigators said the shooting of the teenage girl happened following an argument with a young male while they were both in one of the rooms.
Police spokesman Anthony Grant told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: ‘Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was inside of a room at the Hyatt Regency with a juvenile male companion.

‘A verbal dispute occurred between both parties which resulted in the juvenile male fatally shooting the victim.’
The teenage girl’s shooting was one of three killings reported across the city within 24 hours, bringing Atlanta’s homicide count to 154 for the year.
In an statement released Saturday afternoon, a spokesman for the Hyatt Regency hotel said: ‘We are saddened by the isolated situation that occurred at Hyatt Regency Atlanta early this morning, and our thoughts go out to those who have been affected.
‘The hotel is fully cooperating with local authorities with their investigation, and further questions may be directed to the Atlanta Police Department.’
