  • Energetic red heeler has used the technique on the sand since she was a puppy

A red heeler named Flea has displayed her highly unusual – but effective – method when dragging a tennis ball across a beach.

In a clip recently uploaded to You Tube, the energetic dog can be seen yanking the ball under the sand for a considerable distance on Queensland‘s Sunshine Coast.

Flea shows impressive strength to keep the ball under the sand with one paw as she makes her way towards the water.

She uses her other paw to keep balanced, with the strength in her hind legs on full display as she approaches the water in a backward motion.

Her proud owners revealed Flea first showed off her eye-catching ‘party trick’ as a puppy.

‘Flea grew up going to the beach every day,’ they said in a comment after uploading the video, which has been viewed almost 1000 times.

‘We first started noticing her doing this odd trick when she was just little.

‘She’s pretty independent and prefers to play on her own, with this little trick she can keep herself entertained for hours.

‘She’ll drag anything. A ball, a stick, or even a bottle cap.’

Red heelers are typically solid, sturdy and compact dogs with an alert stance.

They are renowned for their high energy and have a life span of up to 15 years.
