Idaho woman wins $500,000 on two different scratch games bought from different grocery stores

What are the odds? Idaho woman wins $500,000 on two different scratch games bought from different grocery stores and played on consecutive days

  • Orlene Peterson, of Coeur d’Alene, scratched for a $200,000 win on Friday morning after picking up a card at an Albertsons supermarket in Hayden
  • The next day she managed to pick up the final $300,000 ticket of the Comin’ in Hot game at a Fred Meyer store in Coeur d’Alene
  • ‘I thought maybe it was $1,000,’ Peterson said. ‘I never imagined it would be $300,000 and that it happened again. The next day!’

An Idaho woman has won the lottery jackpot two days in a row, defeating odds of around 1 in 230 million to bank $500,000.

Orlene Peterson, of Coeur d’Alene, scratched for a $200,000 win on Friday morning after picking up a Grand Fortune card at an Albertsons supermarket in Hayden.

The next day she managed to pick up the final $300,000 ticket of the Comin’ in Hot game at a Fred Meyer store in Coeur d’Alene.

Orlene Peterson holds her winning $500,000 check. She plans to pay off some bills, buy a truck and take a trip to Las Vegas.

‘I had bought some tickets already, then had $20 left over, so I thought what the heck, I’ll get a Grand Fortune ticket,’ Peterson told the Idaho Statesman.

‘When I scanned the ticket, it said I had to contact the Idaho Lottery for my winnings. That had never happened before when I was playing. I checked it and it was a $200,000 winner. I couldn’t believe it.’

She then bought another the next day and was again told to claim it from the lottery officials.

‘I thought maybe it was $1,000,’ Peterson said. ‘I never imagined it would be $300,000 and that it happened again. The next day!’

Fred Mayer and Albertsons will each receive a $20,000 bonus from the state lottery.

The lottery said that there were too many variables to say exactly what the odds of winning twice were but said that Peterson’s chances were around 1 in 282.5 million.

Last week, Idaho resident Bryan Moss made a $250,000 haul in the state lottery. It was his sixth win since he started playing.
