Bigger isn’t always better! Shivali’s take

‘The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are verging on tablets,’ Best said, ‘with the two boasting a whopping 6.9 inch display.’

‘Personally, I think that’s too big – you’ll struggle to fit it in your pocket or use it with one hand!’ she continued.

‘The thin borders are lovely though, and I like the new Desert Titanium color,’ which is like a metallic bronze.

Apple Intelligence unveiled

Apple Intelligence will have the power to run multiple generative AI models on your compatible iPhone.

Private Cloud Compute will allow you to maintain your data privacy and security while still tapping into these AI features.

What’s more, 100% of the data centers that will support the AI platform will run on renewable energy, Apple said.

New AI features include generative writing tools, custom ‘Genmoji’ generation, a smart photo library, and Siri upgrades to make interacting with the digital assistant more natural and effective – including the ability to type to Siri instead of speaking.

You’ll also have the ability to search for something simply by snapping a photo of it. If you come across a bike that you’re interested in buying, for example, just take a picture and your iPhone will search for for it on the web.

After lagging behind competitors like Google and Amazon in the AI race, this launch marks a big step forward for Apple.

‘Apple is copying Google with that visual intelligence tool, Google Lens came out years ago,’ Best said.

iPhone 16 announced

The new iPhone 16 will be 50 percent tougher than previous iPhone models, come in three new colors – ultramarine, teal and pink – and include a customizable action button that lets you record voice memos, indentify a song or translate a phrase.

Users have been skeptical of the customizable action button’s effectiveness since it was first rumored to roll out with the iPhone 15 Pro. Many people think it will meet hte same fate as the MacBook’s touchbar, a feature that Apple scratched due to lack of consumer interest in 2023.

But perhaps most importantly, it will be fully compatible with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s very own AI platform. That means it will have a bunch of new AI features at the core of its functionality.

Apple officials have confirmed rumors that the Apple Watch Series 10 will come with a new sleep apnea detection feature.

The device does this by tracking breathing disturbances while you’re sleeping, then analyzing that data every 30 days to determine whether you may be suffering from this condition.

And with this new watch design, you’ll be able to type messages directly on the screen instead of relying on voice-to-text thanks to the addition of a digital keyboard.

Apple CEO Tim Cook tweets photo from Apple Park

We’re less than two hours away from the start of today’s event. CEO Tim Cook tweeted this photo from Apple Park in Cupertino.

X users are speculating that the image may be AI generated – perhaps to show off the capabilitites of Apple Intelligence.

Apple Store site is DOWN in anticipation of event

Apple typically takes its online store offline prior to a launch event so that it can prepare pages for its new products.

That means you can’t purchase any Apple products until the event ends later today. But today probably isn’t the best day to purchase a new iPhone or Apple device anyway.

Waiting until a few weeks after the launch gives you more time to determine whether the newest models are worth the pricetag, or if you would rather purchase a slightly older model for less money.

Update on virtual or augmented reality devices?

There’s no evidence to suggest that Apple will give an update on its Vision Pro, Apple Glasses or any new virtual or augmented reality devices today.

However, there has been some new leaked information about the Apple Glasses, which are expected to launch in 2027.

But we could have them, or a cheaper version of Vision pro, as early as 2025.

These lightweight AR spectacles will be different from the Vision Pro goggles in that they’re designed for everyday wear. They’re considered a direct competitor of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which launched in 2021.

The Apple Glasses are expected to launch with augmented reality and eye-scanning features, but little else is known about the functionality and design of this forthcoming product.

Potential surprise product debuts, including iPad mini 7

Apple could surprise us with a few unexpected device reveals during the event, including the iPad mini 7.

The iPad mini 6 came out in 2021, so this tablet is due for an upgrade.

The new mini is rumored to come with Apple Pencil Pro support, storage capacity and memory increases and a range of new color options.

Apple expected to unveil new Apple Watch and AirPods

In addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, new devices expected to launch at today’s event include the Apple Watch X and the AirPods 4.

Other devices that could launch today include the Apple Watch Ultra 3, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2, but these are less certain to appear.

The two models included in this new Apple Watch series are rumored to come with some exciting health-tracking features. That includes an updated heart rate and ECG sensor as well as an all-new sleep apnea detection feature.

Apple Watch could also be getting a makeover, with this new series expected to have a larger but slimmer screen design.

The new Airpods will likely offer improved sound quality over the AirPods 3, which came out in 2021. AirPods 4 will also be the first non-pro set to feature active noise cancellation, and will come with a new case with a built-in speaker.

A brief guide to Apple Intelligence: Apple’s very own AI platform

Apple is finally entering the AI race with the launch of Apple Intelligence.

The company has described the new software as a ‘personal intelligence system that puts powerful generative models right at the core of your iPhone, iPad and Mac.’

The new features packed into this platform include generative writing and image-making tools, the ability to create custom emojis (or Genmojis), and big improvements to Siri.

Apple’s foray into AI began with the introduction of their digital assistant, Siri, in 2011. But since then, the company has lagged behind competitors like Amazon and Google.

But with the launch of Apple Intelligence, the company is aiming to make its mark on the ‘conscious AI’ market.

iPhone 16 will support highly-anticipated AI features

iPhone 16 is Apple’s first phone lineup designed to support AI features.

At today’s event, the company is expected to unveil the standard 16 as well as the iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Each of these phones will be compatable with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s very own AI platform.

The iPhone 16 lineup won’t launch with Apple Intelligence right off the bat. While the new phones will become available for purchase today, the AI platform isn’t expected to roll out until the end of October, according to 9to5Mac.

iOS 18 packed with new features, including the ability to control your phone with your eyes

iOS 18 is expected to launch with a bunch of exciting new accessibilty features, including the ability to control your phone with just your eyes.

iPhone Eye Tracking will work on any iPhone that’s compatible with iOS 18. To enable this feature, go to Settings, tap Accessibility, swipe down and choose Eye Tracking and toggle it on.

Your phone will walk you through a brief calibration process so that it can learn to recognize your eye movements. Then, you will be able to navigate your screen, open apps and perform tasks inside apps all without ever touching your screen.
