Australian nutritionist Jessica Sepel has offered five health resolutions for 2021 that don’t require dieting or marathon workout sessions.
The founder of JSHealth, from Sydney, suggested the secret to a lasting, healthy lifestyle is simply by making small yet realistic changes that you can sustain.
‘You don’t need to kick start 2021 with a juice cleanse, detox or fad diet… A healthy goal involves kindness, balance and joy,’ she wrote in her latest blog post.

1. COOK MORE
Whether you’re a pro in the kitchen or an amateur cook, Jessica said cooking more in the New Year can be rewarding.
But for those who can’t cook, she suggested starting with simple, quick meal recipes, and work your way up from there.
‘It doesn’t have to be a chore, think of cooking as a chance to fuel your body with nutritious, whole foods that you love,’ she explained.
2. GIVE YOUR BODY EXTRA NUTRIENTS
Jessica explained why it’s so important to take supplements daily to give your body the extra nutrients it needs.
‘I believe giving your body some extra nutrients when it’s lacking is so important in helping you feel your best,’ she said.
Her recommendations include probiotics, magnesium and collagen.

3. EXERCISE MINDFULLY
And while fitness is one of the top priorities for most people, Jessica said exercise should never be something you do to ‘burn off calories’ or ‘punish yourself for eating too much’ or not look a certain way you want.
She urged people to listen to their body and find a form of movement they enjoy.
4. DRINK 2L OF WATER A DAY
While it’s so simple and obvious, Jessica said drinking two litres of water a day is still ‘underrated’.
‘Water is the key to a happy, healthy body! It supports so many critical functions of your body, and staying hydrated will support your energy levels all day long,’ she said.
While the human body is made up of 50 to 75 per cent of water, most adults can lose up to three litres of fluids a day – and the amount can increasingly decline in hot weather and with prolonged exercise.
According to Better Health Victoria, body water content is higher in men than in women and falls in both with age. Women aged 19 or more should have about two litres – eight cups – of water a day, while men require 2.6 litres – 10 cups.
5. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE
Whether you like it or not, Jessica said people surrounding your life can influence your mood, opinions and emotions.
‘Choose to spend time with those who make you feel positive, strong and happy, instead of those who drag you down to make themselves feel better,’ she said.
