'We're saying farewell to Caillou, but remember, when we say goodbye to something, it just means we get to say hello to something new!' PBS wrote on social media

The show focused on the life of Caillou — pronounced Ky-yoo — a four-year-old boy who lived with his mother, father, and sister, and often played with invisible friends.

‘We’re saying farewell to Caillou, but remember, when we say goodbye to something, it just means we get to say hello to something new!’ PBS wrote on social media.

‘As part of our ongoing efforts to continuously refresh our offerings to meet the needs of today’s kids, as of Jan. 1, 2021, Caillou was retired from PBS Kids broadcast and digital platforms,’ the network told People in a statement.

But knowing that that Caillou has gotten the axe from airwaves has some social media users celebrating.

‘Our long national nightmare is over,’ tweeted one.

‘As divided as we are right now as a country on many issues, I think we can certainly agree on one thing: it was time for Caillou to go,’ wrote another.

‘Folks, hating things is not a personality but hating Caillou is absolutely a personality, let us toast,’ said a third.

Another tweeted: ‘The cartoon portion of Caillou was some of the worst TV I had to endure during my daughter’s childhood.’

‘PBS cancels Caillou after 20 years. 2021 is already a win,’ said yet another.

While some simply found the show annoying, several were particularly fed up with Caillou himself, who they described as a ‘little weasel,’ an ‘annoying little brat,’ and just ‘the worst.’

‘I remember watching this back in the late 90s when I was young and thinking “what a brat!”. How did this terrible show run from 1997 to 2021?’ wrote one.

‘I basically had one “rule” for my kids to keep sane… no whining. That’s all Caillou ever did. So annoying! Some parents banned Sponge Bob. No Caillou in our house! Can’t believe it’s been on tv this long,’ tweeted another.

‘Those parents were way too happy to have a brat,’ a third chimed in, while one more celebrated: ‘Good riddance to that snot-faced whiny bald brat.’

Another called the cancellation an ‘abundance of blessings,’ while one more said ‘Caillou was one evil a** mf.’

Caillou will still be available on the PBS Kids Amazon Prime Video Channel.
