REVEALED: Nancy Pelosi tried to derail AOC’s Green New Deal the night before it was announced because she was ‘anxious’ the Squad member’s ‘notoriety was becoming actual power’
- A book set for release Tuesday details that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to stop Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from involvement in the ‘Green New Deal’
- She was ‘anxious about the new congresswoman’s notoriety becoming actual power,’ the book claims
- Pelosi’s office pushed back against the excerpt, claiming: ‘This is false. No such call was made’
- ‘Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Trump’ focuses on the 2020 Democratic campaign to defeat Trump and will hit shelves Tuesday
‘In February 2019, Pelosi called Ed Markey the night before he was scheduled to help roll out the Green New Deal. She asked him to hold off,’ journalist Edward-Isaac Douvere writes in his book about the 2020 Democratic campaign.
‘She wanted more substantive policy,’ he added. ‘The politics weren’t good right then. Don’t give the platform to Ocasio-Cortez, she urged, anxious about the new congresswoman’s notoriety becoming actual power.’
Dovere’s book, ‘Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Trump,’ detailed the 2020 Democratic campaign to boot Trump from office. The book is set for release Tuesday, but was obtained by DailyMail.com.

According to the book, Pelosi spoke with Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey(far left) – who helped rollout the proposal – to get him to boot AOC from the team
‘This is false,’ Drew Hammill said in a statement regarding the claims in the book. ‘No such call was made.’
Hammill said Pelosi’ team is moving forward with asking Dovere for a correction.
Pelosi is sometimes put at odds with the progressive branch of the Democratic Party – in particular members of the so-called ‘squad’, which include Ocasio-Cortez and Representatives Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
The House Speaker is a more traditional, establishment Democrat.
She also made headlines shortly after the ‘Green New Deal’ was rolled out for downplaying the proposal.
‘It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,’ Pelosi told Politico in February 2019. ‘The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?’
Ocasio-Cortez, Markey and other progressive lawmakers did a re-rollout of the proposal this year after Joe Biden took office.
