Shock jock Howard Stern ENRAGES fans after he announces he is taking the summer off

Shock jock Howard Stern managed to shock his loyal fanbase this week, when he announced he is taking the summer off under his new contract with Sirius XM, which is believed to be worth $500million over five years.

On his show Monday, Stern, 67, seemed to imply that he negotiated a clause in the December contract negotiations to give him a break from the end of June through early September, during which time the subscription radio service would air re-runs of ‘The Howard Stern Show.’

Soon after, fans took to social media to gripe about the announcement, saying Stern should honor his commitment to the show, or they will cancel their Sirius XM subscriptions.

Shock jock Howard Stern enraged his fans when he announced on Monday he would be taking a two months summer vacation under his new contract with SiriusXM

One fan wrote on Reddit Tuesday: ‘Howard Stern just announced per his new contract there will no be any new shows after this week until September.

‘At first he tried to claim they always do this during the summer, then pivoted and said the summer off was part of the new deal he made,’ the Redditor wrote, asking why Stern could not just take two weeks off for vacation, rather than the whole summer.

‘No that would be too fair to his customers,’ he continued.

‘I pay $20 a month for Sirius XM and I am not paying $40 for re-runs. All Stern fans should do this.

‘If I knew the deal would be like this I would have rooted for Howard to retire.’

One person took to Reddit following the announcement to demand Howard Stern fans cancel their SiriusXM subscriptions in protest

Others also expressed their frustration with the announcement.

InaShensh responded to the original poster’s comment that he wonders ‘how many subscribers will cancel for the summer,’ to which Moremintjelly said there would be half of SiriusXM’s subscribers ‘right in the trash.’

And user Thos19 wrote: ‘It s****. But it bothers me more that he refuses to fill in the gap with any original content.

‘Heck, why not replay a block of shows unedited from July 1, 1990 – 2000 to August 31, 1990 – 2000?’

Doubledown830, meanwhile, joked that he couldn’t ‘wait until he comes back and tell us about all of his crafting and mod podge he’s been doing all summer,’ and Metaldude4life said it ‘must be nice to work three days a week, get paid over a million a show, work in your basement from Florida, take a vacation once a month, have people pay t listen to you and now take the summer off.

‘King of all media??’ he continued, referring to Stern’s moniker. ‘More like King of all vacation days.

And on Twitter, a user named Sawyer Montoya wrote: ‘Howard Stern is getting paid $17M to take the summer off while subscribers pay for reruns? WTF?’

‘Stern already takes every fourth week off during the year. That’s not enough? Just retire and move to Vegas with Ronnie the Limo Driver,’ a contributor to his show.

Stern signed a new contract with Sirius XM in December to extend his show for another five years.

Not much is known about the terms of the contract, but, Page Six reports, it is believed to be worth more than $100 million a year, which would mean he is getting nearly $17 million for his two months of summer vacation.

DailyMail.com has reached out to SiriusXM for comment.

Stern typically spends the summer months in the Hamptons with his wife, Beth, Page Six reports, with one unidentified source who knows the couple telling the outlet: ‘He’s not the shock jock out here, he’s just Howard.

‘He doesn’t want to party, he wants to stay home,’ the source said. ‘He and Beth are more interested in rescue animals, art, photography and living a happy, healthy life.’

Stern rose to fame in 1986 when his radio show first gained popularity as a nationally-syndicated show. He has broadcasted on Sirius XM since 2006, and has described himself as the ‘King of All Media’ since 1992 for his successes outside radio.

He hosted and produced late night television shows, pay-per-view events and home videos, and wrote three books, two of which sold over one million copies.

He has become controversial for some comments he made over the years, including saying some of the girls running from the Columbine High School shooting were ‘really good looking girls.’

‘Did those kids try to have sex with any of those good-looking girls?’ he asked on his show, about the shooters. ‘They didn’t even do that? At least if you’re going to kill yourself and kill the kids, why wouldn’t you have some sex? If I was going to kill some people, I’d take them out with sex.’

In 1992 he also mused that the ‘closest I came to making love to a black woman’ was when ‘I masturbated to a picture of Aunt Jemima on a pancake box,’ and in March 1995, when Selena’s fans reeled from her shooting he made fun of them, playing gunshots over Selena’s music the day before her funeral and mocking Selena’s fans with a fake Hispanic accent.
