Today: Piers Morgan tells Allison Langdon: ‘My wife is the luckiest woman in Britain!’

Piers Morgan had fun sparring with the hosts of Australia’s Today show on Monday, clashing with Ally Langdon after she expressed sympathy for his wife, Celia Walden.

Langdon, 42, hinted she felt sorry for the English journalist’s wife after she pleaded with TV networks to ‘give him a job’ following his departure from GMB.

But Morgan, 56, insisted that Walden – a 45-year-old former gossip columnist – doesn’t need anyone’s pity and is in fact the ‘luckiest woman in Britain’.

The banter began when Langdon’s co-host Karl Stefanovic asked Morgan about an interview Walden did with The Sun newspaper over the weekend in which she complained about waking up to her outspoken husband every morning.

She begged a broadcaster to ‘please give him a job’ so he doesn’t just ‘lie there staring at me in bed’.

‘Are you that punishing at home?’ Stefanovic, 46, asked.

Morgan responded: ‘Well, it is extraordinary, isn’t it? You’ve got millions of Brits who are in mourning because they can’t wake up to me in the morning.

‘And there’s my wife, who’s the luckiest woman in Britain, who gets to do it every day, and yet she seems to see this as some kind of terrible thing in our lives. Obviously now she’s in the spare room.’

‘Your poor wife, Piers. Oh, my gosh,’ Langdon then said.

‘Poor wife? She’s the luckiest woman in Britain! What are you talking about?’ Morgan responded in a tone of mock outrage.

‘If not the world!’ joked Stefanovic, to which Morgan replied: ‘Thank you, Karl.’

‘You two together are a punish. Seriously,’ added Langdon, laughing off the pair’s back-slapping banter.

Morgan then invited Stefanovic to join him on the road so they can take on woke warriors and cancel culture in Australia and beyond.

The Nine presenter, who interviewed the former Fleet Street editor for 60 Minutes on Sunday night, seemed more than willing to take him up on the offer.

‘I could come and do a few weeks with you guys, watch a bit of the cricket, who knows where it could take us,’ Morgan said.

Morgan and Walden, who is the daughter of former British MP George Walden, married in Oxfordshire in 2010 and welcomed a daughter, Elise, the following year.

The couple live in Kensington, West London, and are known for taking good-natured swipes at each other on social media and in the press.

Walden told The Sun over the weekend: ‘Being married to Piers is basically one very long eye roll. But what people don’t realise about Piers is that he’s usually very quiet at home because he’s exhausted himself on whatever interview he’s been doing.

‘This is the only reason I am sad about him leaving GMB – well, that and the fact I wake up and there he is, staring back at me morning after morning.

‘Please, someone, just give him a job!’

Specifically, he said he didn’t believe her when she told Winfrey she had suicidal thoughts before leaving the UK for California with her husband, Prince Harry.

He also memorably stormed off the set when challenged on his criticism by GMB’s fill-in weather presenter Alex Beresford.

The Duchess of Sussex had personally complained to the CEO of broadcaster ITV over his comments, but Morgan decided to quit instead of backing down.

His departure from the show has led to a sharp decline in ratings.
