Video has begun recirculating on Twitter of the moment when in 2018 during the annual presidential turkey pardon ceremony, President Trump joked how the decision over which bird to cull was decided by the popular vote, but one had refused to concede.
The entire ceremony was filled with tongue-in-cheek jokes about vote counting, recounts, subpoenas and judicial power, something when revisited in 2020 looks all too familiar.
‘The winner of this vote was decided by a fair and open election conducted on the White House website. This was a fair election. Unfortunately Carrots refused to concede and demanded a recount and we are fighting with Carrots. We have come to a conclusion. Carrots, I’m sorry to tell you the result did not change. Too bad for Carrots,’ Trump said.

Trump said the results were from a ‘fair and open election’ and that ‘Carrots’ demanded a recount
The bird politics of 2018 seems to have uncanny parallels with 2020 with President Trump also refusing to concede to President-elect Joe Biden after the election earlier this month.
Just as in Trump’s turkey pardon joke, he has also demanded for recounts to take place in both Georgia and Wisconsin although just as in Carrots’ scenario, the results have not changed.
It led to some gentle mocking of the president on his favorite social media platform, Twitter.
One person noted that the 2018 speech seemed to carry with it a prophetic message.

One Twitter user wished for a grizzly end to the whole scenario
Others joked using a play on words of the phrase, ‘Release the Kraken,’ a catchphrase for unfounded conspiracy theory which has been recently trending on Twitter
‘Carrots = Orange, Did not concede, Asked for a recount, The results did not change,’ wrote Timon.
‘In other words, the refusal to concede was premeditated at least two years in advance,’ suggested another.
‘Trump is the turkey of 2020’, declared Eric Rosswood.
‘Here’s hoping Trump gets the same treatment as Carrots in the end,’ added

On Tuesday, Donald Trump will participate in the annual pardoning of the National Thanksgiving Turkey at a ceremony in the Rose Garden.
The president has made very few public appearances since the presidential election was called for Joe Biden.
This year’s turkeys – Corn and Cob – arrived Sunday at the luxury Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington and photographers were invited there Monday, as they are every year, to capture the fowl strutting around inside their hotel room.
The two turkeys for President Donald Trump’s final pardoning of the bird variety arrived in Washington Monday. Corn and Cob, two white fluffy turkeys from the state of Iowa, were introduced at the glitzy Willard InterContinental Hotel by the National Turkey Federation
Trump is still due to pardon the turkeys Tuesday, a White House spokesman confirmed, despite making infrequent public appearances since the presidential election was called for President-elect Joe Biden. Trump has refused to concede.
