The prestigious scheme was created in 1948 to nurture young dancers aged from eight to 17.

But it is difficult to gain entry – only 10 to 15 per cent of those who audition are successful.

Their parents Fiona, 49, and Seb Hoyle, 48, said ballet was their daughters’ passion.

Mrs Hoyle said: ‘They started ballet at the age of three. I did subconsciously think at the back of my mind that only one of them might make it – but I decided not to think about that.

The twins’ headmistress Lisa Brown, of Redmaids’ High Junior School, said it was a ‘significant achievement’ that both sisters had been selected for the programme, adding: ‘Evelyn and Isla love dancing and performing.’
