Taylor Swift made the surprise announcement today that she has already completed a new album, less than five months after releasing her last one.
The 30-year-old singer said on social media this morning that her ninth studio album, Evermore, is a ‘sister record’ for Folklore, explaining that she loved working on the first one so much that she just kept writing.
Fans have been blown away by the news, sharing their excited and shocked reactions on Twitter — with some going so far as to compare her to this pandemic’s Shakespeare and others calling it a holiday miracle.
Ta-da! Taylor Swift made the surprise announcement today that she will be releasing a new album called Evermore at midnight
Companions: The release comes just months after Folklore, another surprise album
Woohoo! She has already released the track list and fans are incredibly excited
‘I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore,’ the star tweeted this morning.
‘To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.
‘I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning,’ she went on.
‘I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.’
Fans immediately began sharing their stunned, impressed, and overwhelmed reactions.
Incredible: Fans are sharing clever remarks about how speedy Taylor is — and how impressive her output has been this year
‘Well, she’s not named Taylor Slow,’ quipped one Twitter user — earning a like from Swift herself.
‘Taylor has replaced the USPS because she keeps delivering,’ tweeted another.
‘Taylor Swift made two whole albums in isolation while I’m still struggling to write an essay BYE,’ said yet another fan.

‘During a pandemic five hundred years from now instead of saying “Shakespeare wrote King Lear in quarantine” people are going to say “Taylor Swift wrote two albums in quarantine” and I think that’s beautiful,’ another Twitter user echoed.
Happy holidays! With the album dropping on the first night of Chanukah, some called it a Chanukah miracle — while others said Christmas came early
