Two people died and 10 others are missing in the Atlantic Ocean after a boat they were on overturned 16 miles off Key West on Thursday afternoon. 

The U.S. Coast Guard continues to search for the missing people, Petty Officer Jose Hernandez told the Miami Herald.

Members of the Coast Guard were able to rescue eight people who were on the boat, the outlet reported.

Hernandez told the Miami Herald that two Coast Guard cutters and several small boats from the Coast Guard Sector Key West are conducting search and rescue operations.

Hernandez told the Associated Press that there was no immediate sign of the overturned boat.

Officials didn’t immediately know what type of boat the people had been traveling in or where they had come from.
