Donald Trump supporters rallied outside Georgia’s Capitol building chanting ‘Stop the Steal!’ on Wednesday as the state is due to finish recounting ballots by tonight.
Far-right radio show host Alex Jones was part of the crowd that waved American and Trump campaign flags, many of them seen not wearing masks and ignoring social distancing guidelines.
Hundreds of people, including State Representative Vernon Jones and Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, gathered for the Stop the Steal protest that eventually poured inside the Georgia Capitol building building.
On Monday Jones urged his supports to ‘go to the capital of Georgia now and you must surround the governor’s mansion now,’ according to Media Matters.
Georgia’s recount started Friday morning and the deadline is 11.59pm Wednesday. As of 4pm EST Wednesday, five million ballots had been hand counted.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger said Wednesday afternoon: ‘We’re finishing up, waiting for a few more counties to get back to us – some of the large counties – but I don’t believe at the end of the day it’ll change the total results’
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger said Wednesday afternoon: ‘We’re finishing up, waiting for a few more counties to get back to us – some of the large counties – but I don’t believe at the end of the day it’ll change the total results.’
He announced the audit last week due to the close margin in the race.
He has also repeatedly defended the integrity of the election.
Several members of the Proud Boys, a far-right males-only extremist group that has neo-fascist, violent, nationalistic, Islamophobic, and misogynistic views, were seen in the Wednesday rally.
US intelligence agencies have described the organization as a ‘dangerous white supremacist group.’
‘What we want is for every ballot to be counted. The fraud’s been proven, it’s the same formula all across the country,’ Jones said to hundreds of supporters inside the Captiol.
However, government officials and independent election observers have said repeatedly that the presidential election was secure and Trump’s claims of fraud are unwarranted.
‘This is a major moment. You guys are the literal vanguard. And Georgia is a key battle ground in all of this so I want to thank you for being here,’ Jones said to the crowd that stood on the steps inside the under Georgia’s Gold Dome.
After the speech the group made their way back outside the building.

So far in the recount there’s no indication of broader problems beyond four counties.
Douglas, Fayette and Walton counties didn’t load all votes from memory cards and Floyd county didn’t rescan all ballots after a scanner was replaced due to a technical problem, according to Gabriel Sterling the manager of Georgia’s voting system. Three of those four counties are Republican leaning.
After the recount is in tonight, Georgia election officials expect to release the results by noon Thursday.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger must certify Georgia’s election results by the end of the day on Friday in accordance with the state’s law.
In the audit those four counties led to a few thousands votes that weren’t originally uploaded into the state’s election results to be counted.
The Trump campaign can still request a machine recount of the election results after the state’s certification, which would take at least a week.
