Woman whose dad murdered her mom before killing himself becomes viral TikTok star for sharing harrowing details about the tragedy

A woman has shared the heart-wrenching moment she knew her mom had died at the hands of her own father after waking up to a violent crime scene outside her window.

On December 8, 2019, Kait Granger, 27, woke up in the middle of the night to a message from her father, Michael Boal, 59, asking her to take care of the dog.

Instantly, she knew that something was wrong and she wasn’t going to see her mother, Bobette Everhart-Boal, 59, ever again.

Her hunch sadly turned out to be correct, waking up to a crime scene outside her apartment after her dad hit her mom over the head with a tire gauge before shooting her when she arrived home from a Christmas party.

Bobette had filed for divorce from Michael in August 2023, just mere months before he would end her life.

After going into hiding for a few months after initially filing, Kait and her mom rented an apartment together in Chesterfield, Missouri, a suburb outside of St. Louis, where she grew up.

‘I was sleep the whole time so I didn’t hear anything,’ Kait, who lives in St. Louis, explained in her now-viral TikTok, with more than 6.2 million views, where she shared her harrowing story.

‘I woke up at around 2am and I just had this very weird gut feeling that something was wrong,’ she continued, adding she went to her mom’s room and saw that she wasn’t there, noting it was ‘weird.’

Kait had Bobette’s location on her phone, looking at it to find her location was in their parking lot.

‘I went over to my window and opened the blinds and saw the police cars and the lights and the crime scene tape and everything,’ she recalled.

‘In the moment I think I knew, but I didn’t want to know.’

Kait went outside, only to be stopped by a police officer who confirmed that it was her mom behind the crime scene tape and that she was dead.

Kait said as long as she could remember her dad has been 'very abusive,' and he left her and her brother letters to read after he died, but she never plans on sharing it's contents

They didn’t know where her dad was at that point, but learned there was a fire close by at a house that matched the address of her mom’s ID.

A few hours later, police confirmed her dad was in the property that was burning and was dead – with officers finding the weapon he used to kill Bobette.

As the investigation unfolded, it became clear that Michael had always intended to kill Bobette and then himself.

‘My dad had opened up a storage unit four days after my mom had left back in August and started to move things from the house in there to protect them because he knew he was going to burn the house down,’ she explained.

‘The main gist is that he said it’s all my fault,’ Kait said. ‘And that I was the one to blame for destroying the family, essentially.’

‘I’ve kind of got to the point of accepting that my mom is safer than she’s ever been and that’s worth all the pain and discomfort that I’m feeling here now,’ the grieving daughter concluded the devastating video.

Kait told The New York Post she ‘needed’ to share her story ‘for her and for me.’

‘A big aspect of this was to motivate me to do things and talk about grief in a way that is more real,’ she added.

After retelling her tragic story on TikTok, Kait has also launched a new series called: Let’s Not Rot, where she documents herself taking part activities and pushing herself to enjoy life because her ‘mom would be pissed if I did.’

She has since amassed more than 330,000 TikTok followers after launching the series last year, where she shares videos of herself completing every day tasks and activities with voiceovers and poems about grief

Kait said the videos were a commitment she made to herself and her mother to live her best life.
