Secret Service accidentally includes 9/11 hijackers in tribute post to victims on 23rd anniversary
The U.S. Secret Service mistakenly included the 19 hijackers in a since-deleted tribute post for the victims of 9/11 marking the 23rd anniversary of the terror attacks.
On September 11, 2001, conspirators from al-Qaida seized control of four airplanes and hit New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon and crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing a total of 2,977 people.
In a post on X marking the anniversary of the attacks, the secret services included the terrorist who hijacked those planes in the death toll, reported Fox News.
‘The flag hanging in our headquarters is a solemn reminder of 9/11 and our mission’s purpose. A testament to freedom and sacrifice, it honors all 2,996 lives lost, including our own Master Special Officer Craig T. Miller & Special Agent in Charge Charles L. Friend,’ the agency said.
The Secret Service deleted the original post and put out a second version that included the correct number of victims.

‘This is a correction of an earlier version of this post. In the original post, we erroneously included the total number of deceased from the Sept 11 attacks, which included the hijackers,’ the agency said.
‘Our intent was to only honor the victims of that tragic day and we deeply apologize for the error.’
Families of the victims have been highly critical of a plea deal that was almost approved for the allegedly 9/11 masterminds detained in Guantanamo Bay.
Joanne Barbara, the widow of a chief New York firefighter killed on that fateful day, slammed President Joe Biden for his ‘flippant’ remarks on the 23rd anniversary as she paid tribute to her husband at Ground Zero.
She was referencing the president saying he would ‘do 9/11’ when reporters asked about his plans for the tribute.
‘The elected officials here today show their respect and reverence to the families on Sept. 11, or – in our president’s words – “do 9/11,” quite a flippant remark,’ Barbara said.

The controversial plea agreement for the masterminds sparked massive outcry, specifically from family members who closely follow anything involving the fallout from that day more than two decades ago.
The Biden administration had put forward a deal that said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two accomplices would have received life sentences in prison without the prospect of the death penalty in return for a guilty plea.
On August 2, Biden’s Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revoked the deal.
‘If not for the 9/11 families, who knows what would have transpired?’ Barbara said.
‘It has been 23 years and the families deserve justice and accountability.’
